National Signing Day is on Feb. 4 and the SEC is primed to bring in another impressive haul of top recruits in the 2015 recruiting class.

In the next 25 days, Saturday Down South counts down the top 25 recruits either committed to the SEC or strongly considering SEC schools.

Starting with No. 24 …

No. 24 Kerryon Johnson

Position: Athlete

247Sports ranking: No. 47 overall; No. 1 overall in Alabama

Committed: Auburn

The skinny: One of the top athletes in the nation, Kerryon Johnson is a two-way warrior who excelled at both running back and safety in high school. He was tabbed to play safety at the Under Armour All-America Game last week and was one of the standout defensive backs of the whole week. However, his desire is to be a running back at Auburn and that’s where he’ll play in 2015. And he’s not too bad at that position, either. In his state championship game, he ran for six touchdowns. Six! His speed and acceleration should fit perfectly into Gus Malzahn’s offense as it it’ll highlight the best of Johnson’s running ability.

Freshman projection: Auburn is losing its top two running backs this offseason, but the Tigers have a few options to bolster their depth. Freshman Roc Thomas will be back and top JUCO prospect Javon Robinson figures to get significant playing time in the backfield. Peyton Barber also returns for Auburn. Johnson won’t get the lion’s share of the carries his freshman season, especially behind Thomas and Robinson. Malzahn does like to use several backs in his no-huddle offense, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Johnson as the third or even fourth option as a true freshman. His time to shine may be a few years down the road.
