Nick Saban has it good in Tuscaloosa.

The championship-winning king of college football will soon welcome another star-studded recruiting haul which currently sits as the nation’s best nearing the end of the dead period prior to National Signing Day.

Here’s a review of Alabama’s strengths heading into bowl week after the holiday and a few predictions on where the Crimson Tide could end up in February. We use 247Sports’ team rankings and individual composite player lists to determine grades:

Current standing

  • National recruiting rank: 1st
  • SEC recruiting rank: 1st
  • Number of commits or signees: 23

Signed, sealed, delivered

  • None

Notable hard commits

  • Blake Barnett, QB, Corona, Ca. (Five-star)
  • Calvin Ridley, WR, Pompano Beach, Fla. (Five-star)
  • Minkah Fitzpatrick, CB, Jersey City, N.J. (Five-star)

Remaining primary targets

  • CeCe Jefferson, DE, Glen Saint Mary, Fla. (Five-star)
  • Byron Cowart, DE, Seffner, Fla. (Five-star)
  • Damien Harris, RB, Berea, Ky. (Five-star)

Signing Day surprise

  • If Saban and defensive coordinator Kirby Smart can lure one of two five-star uncommitted pass rushers from Florida to Alabama, the Crimson Tide will be set on that side of the football. Jefferson is more realistic than Cowart who most feel will sign with Jim McElwain and the Gators.
