As Arkansas makes its way through spring practice, one of the biggest questions is how a revamped offensive line will look. Despite returning four of five starters from a year ago, the Razorbacks are shifting everyone around up front. So far, Bret Bielema likes what he’s seen from the group after Arkansas held a scrimmage on Saturday.

“I was very pleased. Overall, I didn’t see a lot of breakdowns. We haven’t had any issue at all with the one unit,” Bielema said, save for a penalty on Denver Kirkland that the left tackle disagreed with. “I think (Kirkland) and (left guard) Sebastian (Tretola) over there form a very staunch, athletic group that you can run to your right and left.”

Bielema added that Dan Skipper, who moved from left tackle to right, has been playing better on the right said than he has at any time on the left. Bielema also praised Frank Ragnow, saying the sky is the limit for the sophomore as he moves to center, and said that Mitch Smothers has been an “unsung hero.”

The coach also added that wide receiver Keon Hatcher sat out Saturday’s scrimmage with a knee injury he suffered on Thursday, the first time the receiving corps has worked without its best player. Hatcher, whom Bielema said has had a great offseason and spring, could miss a week or two as a precaution. Bielema said that Drew Morgan has responded well on the field, and that as long as he stays on top of his work off the field he could be an impact player.

Bielema hit on a variety of topics during a nearly 25-minute session with reporters, including Alex Collins — who apparently came back from spring break a little on the heavy side — as well as Robb Smith’s defensive coaching techniques, players who have impressed him this spring and how the backup quarterbacks have looked (spoiler alert: sharp). Bielema also said that he held senior Jonathan Williams out of the scrimmage to help get Collins some more reps.
