Auburn quarterback Jeremy Johnson overcame two interceptions Saturday to help the sixth-ranked Tigers beat Jacksonville State in overtime in their home opener.

The preseason Heisman candidate spoke to reporters after the game and seemed confident despite a shaky outing.

On being able to get it done and move forward:

โ€œIt felt great and Coach always said we were going to find a way to win. Melvin Ray went up and made a great play and defense got a great stop at the end.โ€

On Malzahn saying he had bright eyes at the end and wanted to beat this team:

โ€œI just wanted to take it one play at a time and let those guys make a play. Thatโ€™s what they did for me. Melvin and also Peyton on that third down, he just leaned over to the side and said, โ€˜Throw it to meโ€™. I believed in him and I just threw the touchdown.โ€

On possible confidence issues:

โ€œNone. All youโ€™ve got to do is just go to the next game and play. Thatโ€™s football. Thatโ€™s part of football. All you can do is just learn from your mistakes. Coach Malzahn pushes us to find a way to win and thatโ€™s what we did.โ€
