With Jovon Robinson’s shocking dismissal announced on Wednesday night, the Auburn depth chart at running back has been completely flipped upside down.

Peyton Barber’s unexpected leap to the NFL — coupled with Roc Thomas’s transfer to Jacksonville State — already left the Tigers with a thin group of rushers. Couple in the loss of its most talented and experienced back in Robinson, and Gus Malzahn’s team will virtually be starting from scratch.

Kerryon Johnson will likely get the first shot at the starting gig. With only 208 yards rushing a season ago, the rising sophomore is the team’s leading rusher returning. Johnson returned to practice Wednesday after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery. Malik Miller is a talented true freshman, and Kamryn Pettway is a true sophomore fullback with some experience.

With Malzahn’s propensity to utilize his quarterbacks in the run game, it won’t completely be all on the running back corps to produce rushing yards. However, one of these three will have to emerge if Auburn’s to win the SEC West in 2016.
