A lingering knee injury has forced Sean White to the sideline, and Jeremy Johnson will start at quarterback tonight for Auburn against Texas A&M.

When the Tigers came out for pregame warmups, White joined them, but only watched as Johnson warmed up.

White injured his knee in the Tigers’ 54-46 four-overtime loss to Arkansas on Oct. 24. He played in Auburn’s 27-19 loss to Ole Miss last week, but was not 100 percent and was replaced by Johnson at times, including an unsuccessful Hail Mary attempt on the game’s final play.

On Saturday, Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn expressed confidence in Johnson, who started the Tigers’ first three games this season. White had started the last four games at quarterback.

White, who has passed for 1,063 yards and a touchdown, could play in an emergency, but Malzahn plans to use Johnson and Jonathan Wallace at quarterback first.

Auburn will also be missing safety Tray Matthews, who did not dress due to an undisclosed injury and was watching from the sideline. Nick Ruffin started the game in Matthews’ place.
