Gus Malzahn has got to be tired of hiring the same question again and again, ‘Who will be the team’s starting quarterback to start the season?’

The Auburn head coach is apparently not in a rush to answer the question that just won’t go away. Between senior Jeremy Johnson, sophomore Sean White and JUCO junior transfer John Franklin III, the answer is still up in the air heading into the thick of summer workouts.

Although Malzahn was willing to provide those in attendance at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta with a good nugget of information, the Tigers don’t plan on rotating quarterbacks in the opener against Clemson, according to Auburn Undercover.

As far as naming a starter at quarterback, Malzahn would only say the team plans to wait as long as necessary before naming a starter before the Sept. 3 home opener.

“(We’ll wait) Until we’re 100 percent certain,” Malzahn said in regards to naming his starter.

Tiger fans may have gotten all they can handle of Johnson and White last season and are eager to see what Franklin brings to the offense. Malzahn continued to praise the most mobile of the three options under center.

“He is a talented young man, he’s very fast and he wants to be good,” Malzahn said. “I think that’s important. He’s still learning the offense but the fact that he’s very coachable, wants to be good, he’s right in the middle of the thing right now.”

If Franklin can provide a similar threat as Nick Marshall was able to in 2013-14, Auburn could see a drastic increase in offensive production this season. If not, the Tigers could be in for another long season of musical chairs behind center if three challengers (and incoming signee Woody Barrett) fail to distinguish themselves as the clear choice in Malzahn’s offense.
