A who’s who of five-star SEC targets will be on official visits at Auburn this weekend for what is the most important post-dead period multi-day stretch for the Tigers in recent recruiting history.

Uncommitted prospects Cece Jefferson, Byron Cowart and Terry Beckner Jr. — all defensive linemen — will be in town along with Georgia commit Terry Godwin and Tennessee pledge Preston Williams to see what Auburn has to offer.

Newly-hired assistant Lance Thompson was once the point man for Jefferson, a Florida native, at Alabama and improves the likelihood of Jefferson signing with the Tigers. The same goes for Muschamp who also pinpointed Jefferson as one of his featured targets at Florida.

“I’m mainly looking at how I could come in and contribute right away — and how I would fit in,” Jefferson said in a text message this week to 247Sports.

Cowart, ESPN’s top-ranked player in the 2015 class, is a close friend of Jefferson and has a finalist list which includes Auburn, Florida State and Florida. The Tigers or Gators could receive both five-stars in a package deal, one that would provide a considerable boost to each program’s overall class.

Cowart starred during his recent Under Armour All-America appearance and could be a true freshman playmaker at the strong-side end spot. He’ll visit Gainesville next weekend before his third and final visit to Florida State on Jan. 30.

On Thursday, Cowart told ESPN that he knows where he is going to sign with help from his mother.

Muschamp and the Tigers have the edge getting to Jefferson and Cowart first.

Beckner Jr., the best player in Missouri, is thought to be a Mizzou lean, but Auburn will try and alter his line of thinking this weekend.

Ranked as the 12th-best class nationally, Auburn has 20 commits in its 2015 haul and should add a couple more high-profile players thanks to Muschamp’s hire. Both Jefferson and Cowart weren’t expected to visit the Plains until Muschamp came on board last month.
