As stands now just less than one month before National Signing Day, the new coaching staff hasn’t made much progress in regard to adding commitments.

Jim McElwain has secured one new commit — Daniel Imatorbhebhe, a three-star tight end who has already enrolled at the school, so he will be eligible to participate in spring camp.

While the numbers haven’t changed much in the one month McElwain has been on the job, he’s certainly been on the road recruiting and so has his staff. With the dead period lasting until Jan. 15, there’s only three weekends before NSD that recruits can schedule official visits, so there’s not much time for McElwain to put together a complete staff.

The jewel of the class, four-star athlete Derrick Dillon, was effective in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He had a team-high three receptions and 57 yards receiving. As a Louisiana native, it’s no surprise that LSU has worked its way back into Dillon’s recruitment, considering the coaching changes at Florida. Dillon is scheduled to take an official visit to LSU on Jan. 16.

What McElwain’s first recruiting class will ultimately come down to is if he can secure the commitments of some notable five-stars who have Florida high on their lists. Offensive tackle Martez Ivey and defensive end Byron Cowart are two can’t-miss prospects and both have the Gators in their top-two.

Ironically, he’ll be competing with Auburn and its new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp for Ivey and Cowart.

If he’s able to add those two players to the class on NSD, it would be a huge momentum swing for the Gators on the recruiting trail and would be an asset in convincing other 2015 recruits to join them down in Gainesville.
