Is Florida CB Jalen Tabor the best cornerback to ever play in the SEC? Tabor thinks he deserves that title if he gets picked in the top four of the NFL Draft.

The junior Gators corner aspires to be selected higher than 2014-15 teammate Vernon Hargreaves III (No. 11 pick by Tampa Bay), UF alum Joe Haden (No. 7 pick in 2010) and ex-LSU CB Patrick Peterson (No. 5 pick in 2011).

Tabor’s first chance at draft eligibility will be in 2017 if he chooses to forego his senior season, which would not be a surprise. Despite playing in the shadow of Hargreaves, many observers called Tabor the top cornerback in the Gators secondary last season. Tabor and Hargreaves tied for a team-leading four interceptions last season, but Tabor also had two pick-sixes, which eluded Hargreaves in his collegiate career, and also broke up more passes (14 to 4).

Unfortunately for Tabor, even if he plays well enough to be a top-four selection, there’s no way of knowing the roster needs of the first four teams to select next spring. For instance, former Ole Miss OT Laremy Tunsil was thought to have lost out on some future money – before the video incident – when the Tennessee Titans traded away the No. 1 pick.

While most people don’t consider draft status as the chief evaluation method for a college career, Tabor will certainly be talked about as one of the SEC’s best if he does go somewhere between Nos. 1-4 in the ’17 draft.

He’s also has his sights set on college football’s highest individual award.
