With the Alabama loss in the rearview mirror, the Florida Gators now have a bye week to recuperate and attempt to work out the issues that were so prevalent in their game in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Here are the good and bad numbers for the Gators heading into the bye week.

THE GOOD

12: turnovers forced by the Gators’ defense through three games. Against Alabama alone, the Gators forced four turnovers – three fumbles and one interceptions. It was the turnovers that helped keep Florida in the game as long as they did. Their current TO margin is plus-8, which leads the SEC.

258: rushing yards by Matt Jones. It may not seem like much, but after an injury-plagued season in 2013, the Florida running back is well on pace to quickly surpass his 2013 total of 339 yards through five games. He’s currently averaging 5.27 yards per carry compared to just 4.29 yards last season.

5: penalties against Alabama. It was an improvement for the Gators in an area they’ve always struggled with under Will Muschamp. The five penalties totaled up to 36 yards. Currently, the Gators average just over 71 penalty yards per game, the most in the SEC.

THE BAD

32.1: completion percentage by Jeff Driskel against Alabama. The redshirt junior quarterback completed went 9-for-28 on his passes for just 93 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. So far this season he’s managed to only complete 56 percent of his 116 passing attempts, which ranks him 11th among qualified SEC starting quarterbacks.

818: passing yards given up by the Florida secondary over the last two games. What was thought to be one of the better defensive back groups in the SEC has vastly underperformed thanks to several communication breakdowns against Kentucky and Alabama. Outside of Vernon Hargreaves, no other defensive back has really stood out at this point in the season.

34: third-down conversion rate. They’ve only been successful 17 times out of 50 attempts. Their 34 third-down percentage ranks 13th in the SEC, ahead of only Vanderbilt, who converts just 32.65 percent of their third-downs. The Gators were 2-for-13 on third downs against Alabama.
