Though Florida receiver Antonio Callaway looked less than 100 percent during practice Tuesday, coach Jim McElwain said during the SEC coaches teleconference on Wednesday that Callaway “ran better as he ran through (practice).”

The sophomore injured his quadriceps against Kentucky last Saturday, and it’s still unclear whether he’ll suit up when the Gators host North Texas at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. He will practice again today, McElwain said.

“He tried to go through most of it,” McElwain said of Callaway’s participation at practice. “The more you run the looser it becomes. On Tuesday, that’s the case (with his practice).”

If Callaway doesn’t play, then sophomore quarterback Luke Del Rio will be without one of his best weapons. But McElwain said the sophomore “took some steps” of his own against Kentucky, when he threw for 320 yards and four touchdowns

“He played okay, pretty decent in this game,” McElwain said. “His approach as to how he goes about perfecting his craft, he has a real sense about how to go about it … Not getting too up, not getting too down, but letting the game come to you.”
