The rumors that former Florida cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III failed a drug test at the NFL Combine were phony, according to NBCSports.

Hargreaves has always been projected as a first-round pick, but after rumors that he failed a drug test at the Scouting Combine, a few started questioning his character.

NBCSports’ Mike Florio posted this on Pro Football Talk today:

The truth is that Hargreaves did not fail the Scouting Combine drug test. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Hargreaves has received no information suggesting a positive test. (He would have heard something from the NFL by now, if there was an issue with his sample.) Also, teams have heard nothing yet about any players testing positive at the Scouting Combine, which could be one of the reasons why there have been no leaks.

Florio said that fake Adam Schefter (ESPN) and Ian Rapoport (NFL Network) Twitter accounts posted the rumors on April 17.

It’s so easy for rumors to get started now with fake Twitter accounts, and that’s just an extra public relations land mine that players must navigate now. But if he didn’t fail a test, surely NFL teams know that and Hargreaves will remain a strong candidate to get picked in the first round.

Since he’s clean, Hargreaves deserves that everyone know the truth.
