Cousin of former Georgia DB Commings among 9 slain in Charleston shooting

The Kansas City Chiefs have confirmed third-year safety Sanders Commings, a former Georgia player, is a cousin to Reverend Clementa Pinckney, one of the nine victims during Wednesday night’s mass shooting at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C.

โ€œOur thoughts and prayers go out to Sanders Commings and his family,โ€ Chiefs coach Andy Reid said following practice Thursday.

Commings posted the following tweet Thursday morning:

Primary suspect Dylann Roof, 21, of Lexington County, S.C., was apprehended Thursday morning in Shelby, N.C., following a tip from a passing motorist.

According to the New York Times, Pinckney, 41, was ‘was a pioneering pastor who began preaching at 13 and was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives at 23, becoming the youngest African-American to be elected to the State Legislature.’
