A former two-star recruit that blossomed into an all-conference player at UAB will transfer to Georgia for his senior season after the Blazers dropped football.

The Bulldogs’ 2015 secondary may have gotten some help Friday in the form of undersized UAB linebacker Jake Ganus, who will get a chance to play in the SEC for his senior season, he announced via Twitter.

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Ganus made 16.5 tackles for loss and six sacks this season for the Blazers, which announced the disbanding of the football program earlier this month. Ganus also returned a 56-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.

The second-team All-Conference USA selection led the team in tackles in each of the last two seasons and played safety earlier in his career.

Georgia starting outside linebackers Leonard Floyd and Jordan Jenkins both announced they will not enter the NFL draft, and starting strong safety Quincy Mauger should return as well.

But Georgia only has five defensive backs on scholarship for 2015, according to the Mason Telegraph.

Ganus, a two-star (247Sports) or three-star (Rivals) recruit out of Chelsea (Ala.) High School, chose UAB over Air Force and Navy.

“Right now, it’s been pretty hectic for everybody,” Ganus told AL.com after learning the fate of UAB’s program. “Our worlds got turned upside down. I think everyone’s pretty much thinking about their future and where they’re going to play next year.”
