The jury is still out on Kirby Smart the head coach, but one thing is for sure: the man can recruit.

With another pair of four-star prospects announcing their commitments to Georgia on New Year’s Day — ATH Tray Bishop and S Deangelo Gibbs — the team is holding firm with its No. 3 ranked recruiting class, behind only Alabama and Ohio State in the 247Sports recruiting rankings.

The Dawgs now boast 21 hard commits for the 2017 class and 18 of them are either four- or five-star players. That’s a lot.

Considering the rest of the SEC East has a combined 20 commits rated that highly, it’s safe to say Smart’s program is currently lapping the rest of the division in this recruiting cycle.

Ohio State leads the country with six five-star recruits, and Alabama has four. But Georgia’s plethora of four-star commits (17) gives it 299.81 total points, which is .98 behind the Buckeyes and 11.26 behind the Tide.

Very close.

Georgia went 8-5 (4-4) and won four of five to finish out Smart’s first season as a head coach, beating TCU 31-23 in the Liberty Bowl last week.

National Signing Day is Wednesday, Feb. 1.
