A Georgia Tech student that allegedly hacked the University of Georgia’s website prior to the Nov. 29 game is facing felony computer trespass in Clark County (Athens, Ga.).

Ryan Gregory Pickren, 21, breached the university’s official website and in a clandestine operation added an entry to the online calendar at noon the day of the game: “Get Ass Kicked by GT.”

Released on a $5,000 bond Dec. 23 after spending a night in Clark County Jail, Pickren faces a maximum of 15 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.

Georgia noticed the prank in about an hour and immediately deleted it, then submitted evidence to a grand jury, which indicted the computer engineering major last week.

“Georgia state law states that a person is guilty of computer trespass when they alter, damage or in any way cause the malfunction of a computer, computer network or computer program regardless of how long it occurs,” the Athens Banner-Herald reported.

The Bulldogs, of course, lost to the Yellow Jackets 30-24 in overtime, ending a five-game win streak in the Peach State rivalry.

Pickren almost certainly won’t be in prison for 15 years for what amounts to a harmless prank, but it’s a reminder that it’s generally a bad idea to mess with rival schools in college football, especially in an official capacity.
