Georgia coach Mark Richt spoke briefly on Nick Chubb’s injury following Georgia’s loss to Tennessee on Saturday, saying that he hopes his running back won’t require surgery.

“I’m optimistic that it won’t require surgery, but I can’t say that 100 percent,” Richt said. “As of right now, we’re still pretty hopeful that it won’t require surgery, but we’re not 100 percent sure of that yet. But we’ve got to get some confirmation here tomorrow.”

Chubb’s injury early in the game temporarily deflated the Georgia sideline.

“Nick getting hurt on play one wasn’t very exciting to see at all,” Richt said. “ He was in pain, physical and mental pain knowing that he wasn’t going to be able to finish out this game. He put so much work into this game. Everybody loves Nick Chubb. Everybody respects Nick Chubb. He’s a true warrior when it comes to playing football and he’s one of the finest people we have on our team.”
