Some thought from Kentucky’s Mark Stoops following Saturday’s scrimmage inside new Commonwealth Stadium:

On overall assessment: “It was very good to get out here and get in the stadium and play for the first time full-go on the new surface and just have a good full contact scrimmage. I thought we really did some good things on both sides of the ball. I’m impressed with what we’re doing offensively. I fee like we’re much deeper than we’ve been. Guys are stepping up making plays. There’s very good balance, like we wanted.”

On defensive performance: “Defensively, for the first live scrimmage, we missed a few tackles and got out of position at times, but that’s why we’re here getting this work in. We made a step forward today. I was very pleased.”

On Patrick Towles, Drew Barker QB competition: “They both did very well. They both moved the ball at times. We’ll take a good look on it.”

On skill players: “Dorian (Baker) did some good things, didn’t get a ton of reps. Blake (Bone) had a couple nice plays. The usual suspects.”

On team’s development thus far: “We’re striving to be perfect, but we know that’s not realistic. If we try to be perfect every play, we’ll be good at some point.”

On new playing surface:  “I felt like we were pretty clean. I didn’t see many slips. I saw one where the receiver got his foot out too far, extended, and had a slip on a cut. Other than that, I felt like it was nice.”
