The LSU coaching staff expects incoming freshman Donte Jackson to be quite the weapon this year. A five-star athlete, Jackson will play cornerback, but the coaches have said they’ll work him into game plans on both offense and special teams as well.

This weekend, Jackson showed off one of the traits that helped make him such a coveted recruit: his SEC-ready speed.

At the Louisiana High School Athletic Association state championship meet this weekend, Jackson blistered the field in the Class 4A finals (the state’s second-largest class) with a time of 10.3 seconds, winning his second straight state championship. That time puts him amongst the most elite sprinters in the nation; per DyeStat.com, he now has the fourth-fastest 100-meter time in the nation.

Jackson also won the state championship in the 200-meter dash, where his time of 21.2 seconds ranks him in the top-35 nationally.

While he’s not former Florida star Jeff Demps, who ran 10.01 seconds in the 100-meter dash at the U.S. Olympic trials back in 2008, Jackson will certainly be among the fastest players in the SEC when he arrives this fall.
