LSU got some great news Monday as sophomore defensive lineman Travonte Valentine has reportedly been cleared to officially join the football team.

Valentine had been accepted into school but had to pass one final course before joining the football team, something he accomplished this weekend according to Ryan Bartow of 247Sports. The 6-foot-2, 320-pound Valentine had already been practicing with the team and is now eligible to play in the Tigers’ Sept. 3 opener against Wisconsin.

Valentine’s addition becomes all the more important following the season-ending injury to defensive lineman Christian LaCouture.

A former U.S. Army All-American in 2014, Valentine originally signed with the Tigers out of high school but spent last season with Mississippi Gulf Coast after being dismissed from LSU. Valentine projects as a nose tackle in defensive coordinator Dave Aranda’s scheme.
