Missouri will count on an inexperienced group of receivers to propel the offense in 2015. As such, the Tigers need to be as healthy as possible at the position.

One of the receivers with the greatest potential, J’Mon Moore, suffered what’s being classified as a left shoulder sprain during Monday’s practice. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound sophomore is day-to-day, according to coach Gary Pinkel.

If the timeline proves to be true, it’s a sigh of relief for Tigers fans, many of whom spotted this cryptic tweet from Moore on Monday night.

Slated to compete with DeSean Blair for the starting X-receiver spot, Moore exited spring practice with the first offense but got demoted due to an argument with an assistant coach in the weight room this summer.

Moore led the team with five catches and 105 yards in Saturday’s scrimmage. Blair is practicing through a severe left ankle sprain. He made one catch for 13 yards operating against the No. 1 defense in the same scrimmage.

Nate Brown, healthy after missing a chunk of spring practice, is a good bet to become the team’s leading receiver out of the slot. But if anyone has the ability to challenge him this season, it’s probably Moore. So the team needs him on the field, developing chemistry with Maty Mauk and competing for the starting spot he lost due to his summer misstep.

“The latter part of the summer he began to understand what his role is and how he can help this team,” MU receivers coach Pat Washington said of Moore earlier in camp, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “He began to understand that he has to be a great teammate. If he does that, the rest will take care of itself.”

Moore underwent shoulder surgery toward the end of his redshirt season in 2013, then caught two passes for 33 yards as a backup last year.

Mizzou looked thin at receiver at Tuesday’s practice.

According to multiple reports, promising freshman Johnathon Johnson, trending toward becoming the most likely first-year player to see time, suffered a severe ankle sprain during Saturday’s scrimmage. The injury (and missed practice time) likely will hinder his ability to make an impact early in the season, whether or not he returns to health by Sept. 5.

Redshirt freshman Thomas Richard (hamstring) was limited and walk-on Eric Laurent (illness), who operated with the first-team offense during the spring with Brown out, hasn’t practiced since last week.
