Shea Patterson, a five-star quarterback out of Shreveport, La., committed to Ole Miss, was named the Elite 11 MVP and also led his team to the 7 on 7 championship at The Opening.

Despite starting the final day of competition ranked 6th out of the 18 quarterbacks, Patterson performed well enough late to jump to a No. 1 ranking a secure the MVP of the Elite 11 competition (which is part of The Opening).

In the 7 on 7 tournament, Patterson led team Lunarbeast to a championship as well. Joined by another Ole Miss commit in D.K. Metcalf, the team overcame an early deficit to win the game and the championship.

Does winning a 7 on 7 tournament without pads equate to future success in the SEC? Not necessarily, but Patterson receives great notoriety especially among fellow recruits on social media. Will the recognition help Patterson pull more recruits to Ole Miss? It certainly can’t hurt the cause.
