It has been nearly a month since the opening night of the 2016 NFL Draft and Laremy Tunsil’s stunning admission of receiving payments from Ole Miss coaches. Since that time, nothing of note has been released from the NCAA or Ole Miss in regards to the incident.

While both parties may not be saying much at this time, CBS college football analyst and former UCLA and Colorado head coach Rick Neuheisel recently shed some light on the investigations currently underway in Oxford while on as a guest of Monday’s edition of Sports Talk with Bo Mattingly.

Neuheisel caught up with Rebel head coach Hugh Freeze last weekend and gave Mattingly his opinion of the situation following his conversations with the Ole Miss coach.

“In talking with Hugh, and I’m not at liberty to tell you everything he told me, I feel very comfortable that (the current NCAA investigation) will go away and go away quietly because I don’t feel like Ole Miss has anything really at risk here with respect to having done anything wrong,” Neuheisel said on the air. “They have answers for everything that took place… I feel comfortable based on the information I got that there’s answers. Hopefully the NCAA will realize they are legitimate answers.”

Based on this exchange, Ole Miss is either fully cooperating with the investigation, as they’ve indicated in the past that they plan to do, or they will soon do so and are prepared for any line of questioning.

However, why Tunsil admitted to taking money from an Ole Miss coach and apologizing for doing so remains a mystery. While some have claimed Tunsil was simply confused by the line of questioning in his press conference following his selection in the draft, the former Rebel lineman did have a lengthy meeting with his representatives prior to taking the podium on draft night and should have been well aware of both his hacked Twitter and hacked Instagram account messages.

This story is far from over and where it goes next is anyone’s best guess.
