There are still 11 months until next year’s National Signing Day, but that hasn’t stopped Hugh Freeze and the Ole Miss Rebels from already locking down 10 commitments from next year’s class.

Among those 10 commitments are two five-star prospects and five more four-star prospects, laying the foundation for yet another top 20 class in the Freeze era. The gems of the class, as it stands now, are five-star quarterback Shea Patterson and the class’ top wideout DeKaylin Metcalf.

But there is obviously still plenty of work to be done between now and next February. With that in mind, here are five targets Ole Miss needs to continue pursuing on the recruiting trail in the coming months:

1. DE Emmit Gooden (4-star): Gooden is a 6-foot-3, 270-pound pass rushing nightmare from Brownsville, Tenn., who’s regarded as one of the 10 best defensive ends and 150 best players in the class by most recruiting services. He has SEC size and athleticism, but is also considering his home-state Volunteers as well as the Rebels’ biggest rival, the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Ole Miss is likely to lose both Robert Nkemdiche and Issac Gross after this season, and while it maintains depth at defensive tackle it could use a few more freak athletes at defensive end to add depth on the outside. Gooden could absolutely fill that need.

2. DE Jeffrey Simmons (4-star): At 6-foot-4 and 260 pounds, Simmons also possesses SEC size at the defensive end position. He’s a big, powerful defensive end who can play inside and contain running plays on the edges as well. He gets great leverage when facing double teams and has a knack for knocking down passes at the line of scrimmage. He’s reportedly struggled with double teams at the high school level, but if given time to bulk up further and learn from the touted linemen in front of him, he could complement Gooden nicely on future Rebels lines.

3. S Brandon Jones (5-star): Freeze has kept his secondary stocked with talent during his tenure in Oxford, and Jones could work wonders in continuing that trend if he signs with Ole Miss. He possesses explosive athleticism that allows him to get downhill in a hurry as a run-stopper but also allows him to cover a great deal of ground in a short amount of time when retreating into coverage. He’s a sound tackler and an intelligent player who understands zone coverages better than many his age, which is why he’s widely regarded as the top safety prospect in the class.

4. LB/RB Daniel Bituli (4-star): This star linebacker hails from Nashville, an area Ole Miss has recruited better than any other out-of-state program since Freeze arrived in Oxford. He moves well for his 6-foot-3, 220-pound frame and provides a combination of power and agility as a potential linebacker or tailback recruit. The Rebels are frighteningly thin at linebacker entering this season and both its assumed starters are seniors who will be gone before next year’s signing day, so it’s not hard to see why Bituli adds value to the class. Plus, if he plays tailback, he’ll likely be a better short-yardage power back between the tackles than the Rebels current top choice: tight end/quarterback/offensive lineman Jeremy Liggins.

5. WR A.J. Brown (4-star): Brown is the only prospect on this list who plays offense, but he could be a huge signing for Ole Miss if the Rebels can woo him to Oxford. He’ll enter the program just as Laquon Treadwell will likely leave early for the NFL, giving him a chance to earn time behind 2015 four-stat signees Van Jefferson and Damarkus Lodge. Plus, he’ll enter the program at the same time as Patterson, setting up the potential for a lethal combination in the SEC come 2017-18. At 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds Brown has the length Freeze likes in his wideouts, and his thick build will add durability, which is always a good thing. Ole Miss may be deep at wideout now, but you can never have too many in the SEC.
