Since the SEC’s longest-tenured head coach, Mark Richt, was hired by the University of Georgia in 2001, there have been 29 other head coaching changes throughout the SEC.

Think about that: In the time Georgia has enjoyed just one head coach and 14 consecutive bowl berths, the SEC’s other 13 teams (although two of those 13 didn’t join the conference until 2012) have changed coaches nearly 30 times between them. That’s an average of more than two coaching changes per team in that time.

Interestingly, the two teams with the most coaching changes since 2001 — Florida and Vanderbilt — have spanned both ends of the spectrum as far as success in the conference is concerned. Florida won two BCS championships since Richt was hired; Vandy has yet to win 10 games in that time.

And for what it’s worth, there was at least one coaching change every year in the SEC since 2001 with the exception of 2006, when all 12 head coaches from the 2005 season returned for another year.

Take a look at all 29 coaching changes below since Richt was hired. Please note that the years listed indicate a new coach’s first year on the job. For instance, Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops was hired in Dec. 2012 but debuted in 2013, which is where you’ll find him listed.

It’s also worth noting that coaching changes at Missouri and Texas A&M were not considered before those teams joined the SEC. Gary Pinkel has been at Missouri since 2001, tying him with Richt, while A&M has made just one coaching change since joining the SEC.
