After a multi-week search, Les Miles has found his replacement for John Chavis.

Alabama inside linebackers coach Kevin Steele will become LSU’s next defensive coordinator, Tigers SID Michael Bonnette confimed via Twitter on Tuesday:

Steele, a longtime assistant with more than three decades of coaching experience, spent the last two seasons with the Crimson Tide after serving as Clemson’s defensive coordinator under Dabo Swinney from 2009-12.

LSU is Steele’s third stop in the SEC after serving as Tennessee’s outside linebackers coach in 1982 and as the Vols’ defensive backs assistant during the 1987 and 1988 campaigns.

This announcement is a key hire for LSU coming out of the dead period this week. In the mix for several uncommitted five-star prospects, Steele can hit the ground running for the Tigers.
