Less than a week before signing day, the SEC has the top of the recruiting standings on lock. As it stands today, 11 of the conference’s 14 teams rank among the top 30 in 247sports’ industry composite rankings. Where those teams sit is likely to shift over the next several days as the final uncommitted prospects announce their decisions and the rest sign their letter of intent.

In many cases, a team’s standing in the recruiting rankings could be affected by some inter-conference poaching; many SEC schools are after the same set of prospects and are working to flip some commitments in the final days of this recruiting cycle. One SEC team’s loss is often another’s gain.

There are schools from other conferences that present danger to the SEC’s recruiting classes as well. Which teams could do the most damage to the SEC in the days leading up to National Signing Day? Let’s take a look.

Texas

The Longhorns have a handful of Texas A&M targets and commits in their crosshairs. They’re really pressing Kyler Murray, a five-star dual-threat quarterback who stands as the gem of the Texas A&M’s recruiting class. While the MLB draft is just as big of a threat, there’s growing worry that the Longhorns could poach Murray. Texas is going after five-star defensive tackle Daylon Mack, a former Texas A&M commit, four-star cornerback Kris Boyd and four-star wide receiver Damarkus Lodge, all Texas A&M targets. It’s not just the Aggies that Texas is gunning for; four-star running back Nick Brossette, a long-time LSU commit, visited Austin a few weeks ago and the Longhorns are still chasing after him.

Florida State

The Seminoles have a legitimate shot to overtake Alabama at the top of the recruiting rankings with a strong final push, and a couple of decommitments on Thursday further weakened the Crimson Tide’s hold on the top spot. The Seminoles are in the running for Terry Beckner Jr., who is being chased most seriously by Missouri and Auburn. FSU is also after Iman Marshall, the top-rated cornerback in the country. The California native is considering LSU, although he’s more likely to stay close to home at Southern California. The Noles are also recruiting Texas cornerbacks Holton Hill and Boyd as well. Florida is wooing four-star QB DeAndre Francois, a Seminoles commit, and the competition for him could fan the flames of the rivalry between the two.

Ohio State

The Buckeyes ended Alabama’s season, and now they’re gunning for some SEC prospects as well. Beckner, who hails from a town two hours from Mizzou’s campus, is a big Ohio State target. Mutual interest seems to be heating up after Beckner took an official visit to campus, and if the Buckeyes land him it would steal a badly needed prospect away form Missouri. OSU is also after Isaiah Prince, a four-star offensive lineman who committed and decommitted from Alabama within the span of a week. The Buckeyes have a commitment from four-star dual-threat QB Torrance Gibson, but that hasn’t stopped schools like LSU and Auburn from going after him. Urban Meyer knows the SEC landscape well, so the conference’s teams that he’s tangling with are in for a fight.
