Here’s our best guess at Sunday’s new Top 25 Poll after SEC elite Alabama proved its worth against an Eastern Division contender, top-ranked Florida State survived in overtime and Mississippi State went full beast mode in Death Valley to jump into the rankings at 4-0.

We’ve included last week’s rankings as a guide.

PROJECTING SUNDAY’S WEEK 5 AP TOP 25

1. Florida State (3-0) beat Clemson 23-17. Next: at N.C. State, Saturday

2. Oregon (3-0) leads Washington State. Next: vs. Arizona, Oct. 2

3. Alabama (4-0) beat Florida 42-21. Next: at Ole Miss, Oct. 4 — Nick Saban’s team made quite a statement, obliterating the Gators behind mammoth performances from fifth-year senior quarterback Blake Sims and the nation’s top receiver, Amari Cooper.

4. Oklahoma (4-0) beat West Virginia 45-33. Next: at TCU, Oct. 4

5. Auburn (3-0) beat Kansas State 20-14, Thursday. Next: vs. Louisiana Tech, Saturday — The Tigers never found a rhythm offensively but held off Kansas State with a late conversion to Duke Williams on 3rd-and-9 to avoid the road upset to the 20th-ranked Wildcats.

6. Texas A&M (4-0) beat SMU 58-6. Next: vs. Arkansas (neutral), Saturday — The Aggie defense dominated the nation’s worst offense, registering a season-best eight sacks. Next week’s battle with Arkansas should be an exciting one at AT&T Stadium.

7. Baylor (3-0) BYE. Next: at Iowa State, Saturday

8. Notre Dame (3-0) BYE. Next vs. Syracuse, Saturday

9. Ole Miss (3-0) BYE. Next: vs. Memphis, Saturday

10. Michigan State (2-1) beat Eastern Michigan 73-14. Next: vs. Wyoming, Saturday

11. UCLA (3-0) BYE. Next: at Arizona State, Thursday

12Georgia (2-1) beat Troy 66-0. Next: vs. Tennessee, Saturday — The Bulldogs rebounded from their first loss of the season at South Carolina with a dominant home win over the Trojans. A showdown with upset-minded Tennessee looms.

13. Mississippi State (4-0) beat LSU 34-29. Next: vs. Texas A&M, Oct. 4 —  Dak Prescott’s monster performance helped the Bulldogs respond in Baton Rouge with a possible program-changing win, Mississippi State’s first win on the road against a Top 25 team since 1986.

14. South Carolina (3-1) beat Vanderbilt 48-34. Next: vs. Mizzou, Saturday — What do we make of the Gamecocks? The Commodores kept it close with two special teams scores and a solid run game, but this game was in doubt until five minutes left in the fourth quarter.

15. LSU (3-1) lost to Mississippi State 34-29. Next: vs. New Mexico State, Saturday — This game wasn’t as close as the final score indicated
(maybe it was considering it came down a Hail Mary).The Tigers were hit the mouth and beaten for the first time in 15 games against the Bulldogs. Season-long quarterback issues persisted and LSU had no answer for Dak Prescott.
