So much for the Eastern Division’s only perceived College Football Playoff contender controlling its own destiny. Georgia’s loss to Florida last weekend opened the door for defending champ Mizzou as the Tigers moved into the driver’s seat en route to Atlanta. Gary Pinkel’s team knows what they have to do to play for a championship. Here’s how the division’s contenders stack up as we enter the final four weeks of the season:

MIZZOU (7-2, 4-2)

CHANCES AT WINNING THE EAST: High

REMAINING SEC GAMES: at Texas A&M, Nov. 15; at Tennessee, Nov. 22; vs. Arkansas, Nov. 28

VERDICT: The final mission’s simple for Mizzou: beat the three SEC teams remaining on the schedule and you’re in Atlanta for a second straight season. The Tigers will keep a close watch on next week’s Auburn-Georgia game while worrying about its own season in College Station. Mizzou could sustain a loss to Texas A&M and still win the East if Georgia falls to Auburn and the Tigers win out against Tennessee and Arkansas.

GEORGIA (6-2, 4-2)

CHANCES AT WINNING THE EAST: Moderate

REMAINING SEC GAMES: at Kentucky, Saturday; vs. Auburn, Nov. 15

VERDICT: All the Bulldogs can do is win their next two games and wait after an unexpected loss to Florida has derailed the championship potential of this year’s team. Georgia’s in the unfamiliar position of needing help in the division and its two remaining games are certainly no cakewalk. Kentucky’s still fighting for bowl eligibility and is noticeably better at home this season while next weekend’s showdown with Auburn is the toughest game of the 2014 slate.

FLORIDA (4-3, 3-3)

CHANCES AT WINNING THE EAST: Slim

REMAINING SEC GAMES: at Vanderbilt, Saturday; vs. South Carolina, Nov. 15

VERDICT: Laying it all out there, Florida can win the East at 5-3 if Mizzou loses its final three remaining games and Auburn beats Georgia in Athens next weekend. It’s a cut and dry predicament, though unlikely. While last week’s big rivalry win in Jacksonville helped Will Muschamp’s chances at keeping his job, Florida’s previous 29-point home loss to the Tigers remains the biggest stain on the season, a loss that will keep the Gators out of Atlanta.

KENTUCKY (5-4, 2-4)

CHANCES AT WINNING THE EAST: Slim

REMAINING SEC GAMES: vs. Georgia, Saturday; at Tennessee, Nov. 15

VERDICT: Saturday’s game against Georgia means everything for the Wildcats, a season-definer in Lexington. Considering both Florida and Mizzou hold tiebreakers head-to-head, Kentucky’s hopes for Atlanta are slim, but it’s still mathematically alive. At this point of the season, a strong finish is Mark Stoops’ biggest concern as the leader of a team that’s lost three straight games by double digits since starting 5-1.
