Expect some serious scoreboard watching Saturday night in College Station and Athens when Eastern Division favorite Mizzou battles Texas A&M and Georgia hosts Auburn. Both games have major division championship implications and could rearrange the top of the East. Here’s how the division’s contenders stack up as we enter the final three weeks of the season:

MIZZOU (7-2, 4-1)

CHANCES AT WINNING THE EAST: High

REMAINING SEC GAMES: at Texas A&M, Saturday; at Tennessee, Nov. 22; vs. Arkansas, Nov. 28

VERDICT: You always want be in position to control your own destiny, but are the Tigers safe with three challenging games left in conference play? Saturday night’s tilt at Texas A&M won’t be easy with the Aggies coming off their biggest win of the season, a 41-38 shootout at Auburn.  Mizzou’s season could essentially be over with a loss + Georgia win since the Bulldogs would finish up their SEC schedule at 6-2. That would leave the Tigers with two games remaining without meaning. Should Mizzou and Georgia both lose on Saturday, the Tigers would have to lose at Tennessee and Arkansas to be kept out of the SEC Championship Game. That’s not going to happen. Mizzou’s playing too well defensively to suffer a cataclysmic final stretch.

GEORGIA (7-2, 5-2)

CHANCES AT WINNING THE EAST: Moderate

REMAINING SEC GAMES: vs. Auburn, Saturday

VERDICT: Can the Bulldogs put pressure on Missouri by beating Auburn on Saturday? Playing an angry pack of Tigers certainly doesn’t help after Auburn saw its Playoff hopes diminish last week against Texas A&M. The good news for Georgia is Todd Gurley’s return and the game being at Sanford Stadium. Last year’s cross-division rivalry matchup was a classic that came down to Nick Marshall’s memorable Hail Mary. If the Bulldogs finish their SEC slate 6-2, they’ll know what has to happen for Mizzou over the season’s final two weeks. If the defending division champions split with Tennessee and Arkansas, Georgia moves on to Atlanta.

FLORIDA (5-3, 4-3)

CHANCES AT WINNING THE EAST: Slim

REMAINING SEC GAMES: vs. South Carolina, Saturday

VERDICT: It’s a shame Will Muschamp didn’t switch quarterbacks prior to the Gators’ loss to Mizzou on Oct. 18. Had Florida won that game, the Gators would have a leg up on the rest of the division with a potential Atlanta-sealing matchup with South Carolina this weekend. Since benching Jeff Driskel for Treon Harris, Florida’s won convincingly its last two outings and no longer struggles to move the football. Harris has shown command of the offense and the offensive line has shown noticeable improvement. The Gators reach bowl eligibility with a victory over the Gamecocks, then there’s two games left — Eastern Kentucky and Florida State — to improve postseason placement.
