Elite performances in the SEC Championship Game have often highlighted All-American selections and even Heisman nods over the event’s 23-year history. This season’s no different as Alabama’s Amari Cooper, one of college football’s top players this season, tries to put on one final show on the grand stage against Mizzou.

The SEC Championship Game Most Valuable Player award has been given to a quarterback 13 times with Florida’s Danny Wuerffel (1995-96) being the only two-time winner. Cam Newton was the last quarterback to earn MVP in 2010 after matching a previous record with six total touchdowns.

Only two defensive players have ever won the award and both scored touchdowns in the game. Antonio Langham’s pick-six in the inaugural title game at Legion Field secured the honor in 1992 while LSU’s Tyrann Mathieu, known as Honey Badger, returned a punt for a score, intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble during a 2011 win over Georgia.
