HOOVER, Ala. — Watches, bow ties, sneakers and $7 red pants.

SEC Media Days had it all if you’re into fashion.

Ralph Webb brought the bling and Dan Mullen conquered the shoegame aboard another well-oiled hype train for college football’s most spotlighted league. Emceed by new commish Greg Sankey, the SEC’s premiere preseason event stretched over four days inside the Wynfrey Hotel wasn’t short on sound bites, either.

Here are some of the highlights:

Fashion Week

A noticeably jolly Mullen nearly broke the internet when he debuted his Yeezys on Tuesday and despite Bret Bielema’s best efforts, his glitter-accented Air Force 1s paled in comparison the following morning.

Sneaker wars ensued.

Vanderbilt running back Ralph Webb was the runaway winner for the informal ‘Watch of the Week’ honor, showcasing this gold piece of jewelry on Monday (and later deflecting my question on whether he belongs in the conversation with Nick Chubb, Leonard Fournette and Derrick Henry. C’mon man!)

Webb was one of several players, including Dak Prescott, Julien Obioha (clip-on only!) and Vernon Hargreaves, who wore bow ties to the event. They’re in apparently.

Fournette’s red pants

Stepping off the plane, Leonard Fournette’s red bow tie + pants combo seemed like a stretch, but after he spent a couple hours at SEC Media Days representing the Tigers, most of the media left with a newfound respect for one of the league’s most humble players.

Shortly after claiming that Nick Chubb was ‘hands down’ the SEC’s best running back, Fournette gave us some insight on his bright trousers (runs to the nearest mall):

Spurrier’s cartwheel jab

The Head Ball Coach told Paul Finebaum earlier this year he didn’t believe last season’s 7-6 campaign was a disappointment. On Tuesday, he went one step further and included Arkansas and Tennessee in his explanation, with hilarious results.

Raccoon eyes

We know the contrast was turned up just a bit during Jim McElwain’s interview on the SEC Network, but his noticeable Florida sunburn still made for the primary highlight during what was a boring rookie appearance as a head coach in Hoover. SEC fans let him have it.

Maty Mauk strikes back

Decked in all-black with his trademark half-mullet and beard, Mizzou quarterback Maty Mauk sat inside the small media room Wednesday, soaking in repeated questions concerning his team’s lack of respect this summer.

Then, it turned to Maty.

In reference to his incredibly low QBR in four career losses as a starter, Mauk fired back with FACTS:

Bear Bryant and Mr. Kiss the Ring

I nearly spit out my water along radio row Wednesday when Bear Bryant walked into the Wynfrey lobby. It wasn’t the real Alabama legend of course, but close enough for the heavy Crimson Tide contingent awaiting Nick Saban’s arrival.

Alabama superfan Shannon Villa was back in Hoover for a third straight year with his signature championship belt and ring hat. He even asked me for a selfie … I was honored. Right on, man.
