ESPN put together its annual Ultimate 300 recruiting rankings this week, combining a player’s high school rating with his on-field college performance.

The SEC dominated both the list of 300 players and ESPN’s ranking of the 10 best programs in terms of recruiting. The rankings include 2006 to 2014.

It’s a bit vague exactly how the Ultimate 300 works — it appears the players ranked highest entered college as five-star recruits and exited as top NFL prospects and prolific college players — but here are the Top 10:

1. South Carolina DE Jadeveon Clowney
2. Florida QB Tim Tebow
3. Tennessee CB Eric Berry
4. LSU CB Patrick Peterson
5. Georgia WR A.J. Green
6. Alabama WR Julio Jones
7. Notre Dame OLB Manti Te’o
8. Alabama RB Trent Richardson
9. Stanford QB Andrew Luck
10. Florida State QB Jameis Winston

On Tuesday, the network compiled a list of the 10 best programs in terms of recruiting and talent development from ’06 to ’14:

1. Alabama
2. Florida State
3. Ohio State
4. LSU
5. USC
6. Florida
7. Clemson
8. Stanford
9. Oregon
10. Georgia

The Crimson Tide headline the class. Alabama has put together seven consecutive classes ranked No. 3 or better, according to ESPN. Those classes have included one Heisman winner (Mark Ingram) and three Heisman finalists (AJ McCarron, Trent Richardson and Amari Cooper).

ESPN cited five Top 10 classes in the last six years to justify LSU’s ranking, as well as the Tigers’ ability to keep good talent in Louisiana. “Key in-state signings included WRs Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry, OLs Will Blackwell and La’El Collins, and a strong group of defensive backs like Jim Thorpe Award winner Morris Claiborne and Bednarik Award winner Tyrann Mathieu,” ESPN wrote.

Florida has secured seven Top 5 classes since ’06, including two No. 1 classes under Urban Meyer. One of those included Percy Harvin and Tim Tebow while another included Matt Elam, Sharrif Floyd and Dominique Easley. Even with recent on-field struggles, the Gators signed the No. 2 class in 2013, according to ESPN.

Georgia also scored seven Top 10 classes during this time span, especially capitalizing on offense. The Bulldogs signed two terrific college quarterbacks in Matthew Stafford and Aaron Murray, several good running backs including Knowshon Moreno, Todd Gurley and Nick Chubb, and receiver A.J. Green.

Five of the top six on ESPN’s list have won national championships, with the exception of USC. With three teams, the Pac-12 is the only other conference to have multiple members on the list, while the Big 12 was excluded altogether (sound familiar?).
