The SEC is once again dominating the recruiting landscape heading down the stretch toward national signing day with three of the nation’s current Top 5 classes nationally according to 247Sports. There’s ground to be made up for several programs just outside the top spots and a couple five-stars is all it would take to make the jump over programs like USC, Clemson and Florida State.

Alabama will finish with the nation’s top-ranked class if … the Crimson Tide keep their current non-enrolled five-star commits and Florida State doesn’t swipe away uncommitted five-stars CeCe Jefferson and Martez Ivey out of the Sunshine State who each appear to be headed to the SEC. Nick Saban’s staff has done a great job over the last week keeping their class intact despite the loss of assistants Lance Thompson and Kevin Steele.

Auburn could make a sizable leap into the final Top 5 if … uncommitted five-star Byron Cowart pledges to Will Muschamp and brings CeCe Jefferson along with four-star linebacker Jeffery Holland from the state of Florida in a momentum-changing package deal. The Tigers are also in the mix for four-state Ohio State quarterback commit Torrance Gibson and recent South Carolina decommit Arden Key, a four-star pass rusher. Ivey has visited, but he’s a longshot and considered a strong lean to the Gators.

Georgia’s class will remain in the Top 5 if … new offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer holds onto five-star athlete Terry Godwin who is still listening to what several other SEC rivals have to say. If the Bulldogs can corral uncommitted four-stars Roquan Smith (linebacker, Montezuma, Ga.) and Donte Jackson (athlete, New Orleans), Georgia may finish with the SEC’s second-best class overall.

Tennessee can stay put with one of the nation’s top classes if … the Vols continue Butch Jones’ brick-by-brick sales pitch because thus far, it has worked beautifully in Knoxville on the recruiting trail. Tennessee has an Eastern Division-high 28 commits for 2015 including 10 early enrollees, led by five-star pass rusher Kyle Phillips. If two other instant-impact five-stars (Kahlil McKenzie and Preston Williams) stick, the Vols are set with a class that rivals Alabama’s haul as the SEC’s best.

Knocking on the door, Texas A&M will manage a Top 5 haul if … five-star defensive tackle and once commit Daylon Mack lands in College Station along with four-star receiver Damarkus Lodge. Kyler Murray along with several others tried convincing the two to sign with the Aggies during the Under Armour All-America event. We’ll see what happens for Kevin Sumlin and staff over the final two weeks.
