There’s major fluctuation in the latest College Football Playoff rankings from an SEC perspective based on Week 10 results.

Alabama leaped two spots to No. 2 behind unbeaten Clemson after posting its best win of the season against LSU on Saturday. The Tigers, previously ranked No. 2 in the first CFP Poll, dropped seven spots to No. 9, two ahead of Florida which fell one slot after slipping past Vanderbilt.

Clemson’s hard-fought win over Florida State furthered strengthened the Tigers’ resume and gave Dabo Swinney’s team a marquee victory that stands above the rest. Clemson will be in the Playoff should the Tigers win the ACC and finish unbeaten.

SEC takeaways from the second College Football Playoff rankings:

  • Alabama’s dominant outing against LSU was enough to convince the selection committee that the Crimson Tide are playing their best football of the season right now and deserve to be in the national championship conversation. Many complained that Alabama shouldn’t been included in the first final four since it suffered a previous setback to Ole Miss, but the Crimson Tide proved that was nonsense on Saturday night against the SEC’s last remaining unbeaten.
  • Like Alabama, LSU was also coming off a bye week heading into Saturday’s showdown in Tuscaloosa but wasn’t prepared for the Crimson Tide’s strength up front on both sides of the football. Leonard Fournette was limited to just 31 yards rushing as Alabama tailback Derrick Henry took over the Heisman lead. The Tigers are a longshot if they win out at 10-1, especially if they don’t win the SEC West and get a shot at an additional quality win in Atlanta.
  • The committee was unimpressed with Florida’s effort against Vanderbilt, pushing the Gators from No. 10 to the 11th spot. I do think by winning out, Florida would be ranked inside the final four as the SEC Champion with a quality victory over Florida State in the regular-season finale as well.

Thoughts from ESPN’s panel of analysts:

Joey Galloway: “My top four would be Baylor at No. 4, Alabama at No. 3, they are solidly in the top four for sure, Clemson at No.2 and Ohio State at No. 1 for me. If I look at these top four going head to head, Ohio State beats the other three teams in my top four.”

Danny Kanell: “I’d go Alabama at No. 4. The reason I don’t have them hgiher is because there has to be some kind of penalty for losing during the regular season.”

Kirk Herbstreit: “I’m one of those guys that looked over and over at that No. 4 spot and I debated back forth between Baylor, Notre Dame and Oklahoma State. I moved Oklahoma State to that No. 4 spot after I watched what they did against TCU. I’ve got Ohio State at No. 3. Without J.T. Barrett, they don’t seem to be in sync.”
