South Carolina junior running back Mike Davis said Wednesday he will seek advice from his brother, former Clemson star James Davis, before he makes a decision on turning pro a year early in January.

James Davis was named All-ACC in 2006 and 2007, but his decision to stay for his senior season in 2008 damaged his draft stock after a separated shoulder suffered in spring practice hampered his development. He was selected in the sixth round by the Cleveland Browns in 2009.

Davis says he’s trying to block out any outside noise leading up to his decision. The College Advisory Committee has a three-grade system — first-round, second-round, stay in school — and only five requests from a single team are permitted.

“I’d rather want to hear from someone in the NFL (draft advisory board) or go based off things my brother did and having him behind me,” he said Wednesday. “(James) has been a big factor in a lot of things and a lot of decisions I have made. Of course him coming back his senior ended up hurting his draft status. I’m talking to my brother and hearing things from him.”

Davis is 125 yards shy of his second 1,000-yard season and has 23 total touchdowns in his career.
