While it’s a part of the annual recruiting cycle, this feeling’s becoming all too familiar for South Carolina’s coaching staff.

The Gamecocks have at least temporarily lost one of their jewels in the 2016 class after four-star wide receiver Kyle Davis out of Lawrenceville, Ga., announced he was opening up his recruitment Monday night after committing last summer.

South Carolina assistants GA Mangus and Steve Spurrier Jr. were able to get on Davis early before the recent onslaught of offers came his way. The athletic and rangy 6-foot-3, 215-pound targeting is one of the nation’s top receivers in next year’s class and is currently rated the seventh-best player in Georgia according to 247Sports.

Davis’ decommitment trims the Gamecocks’ 2016 commitment list to four.

Most recruiting analysts expect Davis to land at Georgia, a team that’s been hot on his trail for several months.
