A coaching staff in Columbia has hired a former Gamecocks great to be on its sidelines this fall.

Former South Carolina RB Marcus Lattimore will be with Heathwood Hall Episcopal School, as announced by the Highlanders on Friday.

According to the school, Lattimore will work in all capacities of the HHES program. He’ll be the offensive assistant of the varsity and will also be the B-Team Head Coach.

Here’s what Lattimore had to say about his new job:

“First, I want to thank (athletic director) Jeff Whalen, his staff, and Heathwood Hall Episcopal School for welcoming me with open arms. This has been an easy process, and I’m excited to get to work with this team and this great staff. I was fortunate enough to play this game for 16 years, and have been around great coaches, who were teachers of the game. My philosophy is simple: Play with 100% effort on the field, and give 100% effort every day. I’ve always focused on the fundamentals, which will be my focus everyday working with our players, particularly our running backs. Together, we’ll work to help our student-athletes improve both on and off the field.”

It was a big day for Lattimore as he was back in Columbus and in full uniform, but it consisted of a cap and gown and not helmet and pads.

Lattimore is receiving his degree in Public Health on Friday from the University of South Carolina. His ceremony was scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
