South Carolina reportedly could be close to hiring its next head coach.

The Gamecocks have been looking for a new head coach since Steve Spurrier resigned on Oct. 12. Spurrier is the school’s all-time winningest coach, with 86 wins.

According to Fox Sports, South Carolina’s assistant coaches were told to stop pursuing uncommitted high school recruits so that the new head coach would have scholarships to give out.

Fox’s report did not say who the new coach might be, or name any possible candidates.

South Carolina fell to 3-7 with a 24-14 loss to No. 11 Florida on Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium.
