South Carolina junior wideout Shaq Roland did not travel with the Gamecocks to Shreveport, La. this week for the Independence Bowl and is not expected to return for next season, Chris Clark of Gamecock Central reports.

The oft-troubled former Mr. Football in the State of South Carolina was nearly dismissed from the team in October after failing to make the trip to Lexington for the Gamecocks’ matchup with Kentucky.

Roland did not practice on Tuesday prior to the team’s flight to Shreveport.

Wide receivers coach Steve Spurrier Jr. told The State paper last month that the coaching staff was still behind Roland.

“Certainly, I certainly do (want him back next year),” Spurrier Jr. said. “But, we’ll see what happens.”

If Roland does not return, he’ll end his career with 56 receptions for 891 yards and 10 touchdowns.
