With Willie Taggart the new head coach at Oregon, South Carolina will be facing an interim South Florida coach in the Birmingham Bowl. USF announced Wednesday that T.J. Weist will be leading the Bulls against the Gamecocks.

Weist has previous interim experience, coaching the final eight games of Connecticut’s 2013 season after Paul Pasqualoni was fired on Sept. 30, 2013. He went 3-5 as an interim coach with the Huskies.

The Birmingham Bowl has been a popular site for interim coaches in recent years. After Florida fired Will Muschamp, D.J. Durkin coached the Gators against East Carolina on Jan. 3, 2015. Later that year, Darrell Dickey was interim coach for Memphis against Auburn on Dec. 30, after Justin Fuente accepted the Virginia Tech job.

South Carolina and South Florida will meet at 2 p.m. on Dec. 29 in a game that can be seen on ESPN.
