The SEC East is the weakest it has been in recent memory. Yes, weaker than a year ago as of right now. Along with the overall weakness, four out of six teams have major questions at the quarterback position.

All eyes are on the Florida quarterback position, and that is of utmost importance to this staff and the fans. Everyone wants progression at a position that was underperforming a year ago.

We are under two weeks until all teams play their first games this season. There have been several young players who have really made an impression on their teams and coaching staffs so far, but here are five who I think will have an impact for their teams this season.

Florida freshman quarterback Jeff Driskel is now moving up the depth chart. Early on, all the talk was about fellow freshman Jacoby Brissett, but everyone knew it was only a matter of time before Driskel started impressing and moving on up the ladder. That time is now. Driskel is now No. 2 on the depth

Florida’s practice got under way on Saturday, and an unlikely impresser at quarterback, Jacoby Brissett, could have the early lead as the backup to John Brantley – I say unlikely because all eyes were on fellow freshman Jeff Driskel.

There are always freshmen enter year one and make an impact on every team. This year is no different, and the SEC East certainly has five freshmen looking to be difference-makers in year one.

There are question marks within the SEC about the quarterback position. With really only a couple proven starters returning this year, the position as a whole is starting to take shape on every team. Here is the current quarterback situation right now on every team within the SEC.

Florida fans experienced what I call a “reversion to the mean” in 2010 where their annual expectations of performance were brought back down to reality. During an insane run with Urban Meyer for four seasons (2006-2009), the Gators had an overall record of 61-7. Seven losses in four years. The run included winning the SEC East 3 times, the SEC twice, and the National Championship twice. Then came 2010.
