Texas A&M fans can breathe a sigh of relief — heralded five-star quarterback Kyler Murray (Allen, Texas) has ended his recruitment and remains committed to the Aggies after meeting with Kevin Sumlin and offensive coordinator Jake Spavital on Thursday:

“Texas A&M is where my heart is at,” Murray told ESPN.com on Thursday night. “Coach (Charlie) Strong and Texas is a great opportunity, but I felt that A&M was the place for me. Not because of my dad having played there, but just the right place for me.”

Murray’s decision ends a multi-week back and forth and rampant speculation on whether he would decommit and sign with Texas next week. He recently took an unscheduled visit to Austin and posted a picture of a Longhorns jersey with his recognizable No. 1 on Twitter that caused nervousness in Aggieland.

If Murray doesn’t sign a professional baseball contract when he’s drafted in June, he’ll arrive on campus this fall and compete for Texas A&M’s starting quarterback job against incumbent Kyle Allen. Murray went 42-0 at the prep level and won three consecutive state championships at the highest classification.

Murray will sign his letter of intent on Wednesday during a ceremony at his school.
