Kevin Sumlin needs a defense in College Station.

Adding strength and tenacity to that side of the football has been a recruiting goal during the 2015 cycle and the Aggies feel like they have a couple instant-impact players on the way in including several in the secondary.

Here’s a review of Texas A&M’s strengths heading into bowl week after the holiday and a few predictions on where the Aggies could end up in February. We use 247Sports’ team rankings and individual composite player lists to determine grades:

Current standing

  • SEC recruiting rank: 4th
  • Number of commits or signees: 21

Signed, sealed, delivered

  • Justin Evans, S, Perkinston, Miss. (Three-star)
  • Damion Ratley, WR, Brenham, Texas (Three-star)
  • Claude George, LB, Hutchinson, Kan. (Three-star)

Notable hard commits

  • Kyler Murray, QB, Allen, Texas (Five-star)
  • Christian Kirk, QB, Scottsdale, Ariz. (Five-star)
  • James Lockhart, DE, Ennis, Texas (Four-star)

Remaining primary targets

  • Kendall Sheffield, CB, Missouri City, Texas (Five-star)
  • Daylon Mack, DT, Gladewater, Texas (Five-star)

Signing Day surprise

  • The Aggies would like to get heralded quarterback Kyler Murray in for spring practice but the in-state star has opted to play baseball this spring. There’s even a chance he could be drafted high prior to his arrival. Top uncommitted target Kendall Sheffield would be a huge addition to a class in need of defensive help, especially in the secondary. Former commit Daylon Mack would provide a boost up front if he changes his mind.
