Texas A&M fans, now’s your chance to get some world-class barbecue and check out Beale Street in Memphis, Tenn.

The Aggies (7-5) accepted a bid Sunday to face West Virginia (7-5) in the Liberty Bowl (Dec. 29, 2 p.m. ET). Perhaps it will give coach Kevin Sumlin and the team something to smile about heading to the offseason after losing five of seven.

The matchup pits two similar offenses, as Mountaineers coach Dana Holgorsen served as quarterbacks coach (2008) and then offensive coordinator (2009) under Sumlin at the University of Houston.

Aggies fans hoped for much more after entering October at 5-0, ranked No. 6 in the Associated Press poll. But a below-average defense that led the team to fire defensive coordinator Mark Snyder and an offense that regressed after a white-hot start led to a major collapse, culminating in a 59-0 loss at Alabama.

WVU starting quarterback Clint Trickett has thrown for 3,285 yards this season, completing better than 67 percent of his passes. The Mountaineers played Alabama tough in Atlanta to open the season and knocked off Baylor, 41-27, before finishing the season losers of three out of four.

Like Texas A&M most years, the WVU passing offense is the team’s most distinguished feature, ranking ninth in the country in yards per game. Receiver Kevin White has recorded 102 catches for 1,318 yards.

ESPN will broadcast the game from Memphis.
