The Aggies are heading back to their Big 12 days.

No, Texas A&M isn’t leaving the SEC. But in 2020 and 2021, the school will renew one of its rivalries from its days in the conference. On Wednesday, Texas A&M and Colorado announced a new home-and-home series. The Buffaloes will visit Kyle Field on Sept. 19, 2020, and the Aggies will travel to Boulder, Co. to face Colorado on Sept. 11, 2021.

The series will pick up on a matchup left behind when Colorado moved from the Big 12 to the Pac-12 and Texas A&M headed to the SEC in 2012. The Aggies and Buffaloes first met in 1995, a year before the Big 12 was formed, and then played each other eight more times over the course of their 16-year co-membership in the conference. The first game between the two schools was a top-10 matchup in Boulder and was the site of ESPN’s College GameDay in a game Colorado won, 29-21. Colorado holds a 6-3 edge all-time, as well as a 2-2 mark at Kyle Field.

“We are excited to renew the series with Colorado — a familiar opponent and road destination for our fans,” Texas A&M athletic director Eric Hyman said in a press release. “Texas A&M has played some great games against Colorado in the past, both in and out of conference play. We look forward to hosting a Pac-12 opponent at Kyle Field and then returning to scenic Colorado.”

Texas A&M now has Power Five opponents scheduled for the next seven seasons, fulfilling the SEC and NCAA mandate for Power Five conference teams to play at least one opponent from another Power Five conference annually. Texas A&M will play Arizona State to open the 2015 season, UCLA at home in 2016 and then on the road against the Bruins in 2017, a home-and-home with Clemson in 2018 and 2019, and now the Colorado series.
