The Texas A&M contingent arrived to Hoover, Ala., Tuesday for their sessions with the media. Joining head coach Kevin Sumlin for the league’s Media Days in Hoover this year was quarterback Trevor Knight, defensive end Myles Garrett and receiver Ricky Seals-Jones.

Here’s what the three players had to say during their media availability Tuesday:

Junior defensive end Myles Garrett

On struggles last season:
“It’s not like anybody is trying to let it get bad. We’re going against great competition every
week. We just try to recover from a loss or try to stand up and get back on your feet. Get
onto the next scheme and prepare for the next team. Whatever happens, happens and
we’re not really worried about the last loss and how it affected us. We just got knocked
down a couple of times and just have to keep working for the next game.”

On how much of an effect Daeshon Hall’s play has:
“He creates openings for me just like I would create openings for him. If he’s doing really
well and starts sliding the line over to him, that would make openings for me so I could
make some plays in the game or make a sack on the quarterback or get inside and make the
tackle for loss. He’s just as effective as me.”

On trying to improve his game for the upcoming season:
“Just keeping the hands off of me. Getting off the edge and run-defending, I know my
coaches tell me I could get better at that, and I have been working on that for the last two
years. It was tough the first year knowing that I was injured, knowing that I had to lean to
one side. I had a good year under my belt where I didn’t have any real injuries so I have a
good strength and conditioning under my belt. I can get another fall camp in and I can
improve during that and hopefully get better to go against great opponents.”

On the addition of Trevor Knight and how he has adjusted:
“A confident leader as a quarterback, that is what we needed. We have a lot of young guys
who have to prove themselves and Trevor has already proven himself. He is confident in
himself. We know that he has a love for the game. He can play at a high level and he’s
beaten the best, which is right now, Alabama, what they have done. Last year, they won the
championship. He has shown that he can play with anybody and showed that he is a great
person as well as a great leader from this year and what he has done this summer. We’re
going to try to follow it and we’re going to need him.”

Senior quarterback Trevor Knight

On being at SEC Media Days:
“This is my first time being around a whole bunch of SEC people. It has been unbelievable
so far. I have had the opportunity to go to two Big 12 Media Days and although very similar,
you guys do it the right way. So I’m really looking forward to today and talking a little bit
about Texas A&M football and just having a smile on my face and having a whole lot of fun.”

On rebuilding team at quarterback position:
“My transfer process has been pretty unique. It’s been a leap of faith in a lot of ways, but
looking back on it, it has been perfect. I did get to step in and the culture at A&M,
specifically the team, wrapped their arms around me and let me know that I was a part of
the family. I got to become a leader of the team pretty quickly, which was very unique.
Going through 15 team practices, I feel that we got better and better each day and we have
solidified a few things.”

On which conference has the best fans:
“I haven’t gotten to play yet in the SEC, but I have played against a few SEC teams. I played
at Tennessee last year, but there are a lot of similarities. I will say that the SEC stadiums are
a little bit bigger, and so you will have little bit more fans in the stands. So who knows, that
could prove to be a little bit louder on a week-to-week basis, but the fans in the Big 12 were
rocking as well each and every week.”

On choosing Texas A&M:
“When I decided to put out my release to contact letter, I didn’t know what to expect. I was
kind of looking for a fresh start and to get out of the Big 12, although Coach Stoops allowed
me to play in the Big 12 if I wanted to. But I wanted to step away from that and have a fresh
start. I started putting feelers out there and got back some great school. I was really pleased
with how that whole process went. I am from Texas, I am a San Antonio guy, so I was
thinking big-time schools closer to home, Texas A&M, it is in the SEC. I gave Coach Sumlin a
call and he was very upfront and honest with me that he had two guys on campus at that
point that they felt comfortable with and that is all I wanted. I wanted to have a
conversation with him and he was upfront and honest which I respect a lot. Then moving
forward just a few days, two guys left from A&M so we got back on the phone and it was a
little bit different conversation at that point. My whole process was looking for something
perfect for my senior year. A guy who was extremely happy a Oklahoma, loved the people
that I was around, I got to do a bunch of great things, but just boiling down to it, I miss
being on the field, I miss playing football. So Coach Riley, the offensive coordinator at
Oklahoma, gave me some great advice, it was ‘don’t walk to something run to something. If
there is an opportunity you are running towards and you think it is great for your future,
then take it’’ and I think Texas A&M was that and since I’ve gotten there, everything has
fallen into place with being named the starter and other things dealing with relationships
off the field that have been proven to be true.”

Junior receiver Ricky Seals-Jones

On being a crucial year for A&M and Coach Summlin:
“No I don’t think it is. I think we all just need to go out and do what we are supposed to do.”

On the receiving dynamic:
“We feed off each other and we just go out and have fun with it. We just get the ball and
make something happen. We have a lot of trust in each other.”

On Trevor Knight:
“When Trevor came in he showed confidence. He really shows that strength,
determination and passion to go out. ‘I’m going to beat you until you beat me,’ that was his
mind set all spring and he has continued it through the summer.”
