Tennessee has jumped on the Pokemon Go craze and is attempting to use it to the school’s advantage in recruiting one of the South’s top defensive linemen.

So this is what college football recruiting has become.

Regardless of what you may think about Pokemon, at least you can’t knock the Vols attention to detail here – they even included the 2017 at the top of the screen. Here’s the graphic the Vols recently sent to defensive lineman LaBryan Ray, Alabama’s No. 1 rated prospect for the 2017 recruiting cycle:

Judging by his response, the 6-foot-4, 270-pound Ray seemed to appreciate the creativity Tennessee is show the Madison, Ala., prospect. Ray is currently rated as a four-star prospect, the No. 3 strong-side defensive end and the No. 57 overall prospect in the nation, according to 247Sports. His SEC offer sheet includes Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Texas A&M.

The Pokemon graphic is just the latest example of Tennessee’s tradition of having a creative social media presence, as the Vols have had recruiting success in the past with such tactics. Here’s a graphic the school sent 2015 Tennessee signee Shy Tuttle with Beyonce during his recruitment:

Another good example comes from the recruitment of 2016 Tennessee quarterback signee Jarrett Guarantano. The Vols showed the New Jersey quarterback the heights he could achieve if he signed with Rocky Top by having a street named after him on campus – joining his favorite quarterback Peyton Manning as a Tennessee legend:

If Ray proves to be the next impact player to sign with the Vols, it may be time to give the graphics team in Knoxville a pay bump.
