Tennessee assistant coach Willie Martinez has been suspended for today’s opener against Bowling Green for his role in a recruiting violation, the NCAA says.

Martinez reportedly committed a ‘secondary violation’ and is not permitted to be an active participant of the Vols’ coaching staff today at Nissan Stadium. According to the NCAA, the violation was a result of impermissible contact with a recruit during the spring evaluation period in 2014.

Martinez coaches Tennessee’s defensive backs and has been on staff since the 2013 season. He is eligible to return Sunday morning.
